Sorry that 2020 has been a quiet year for my music projects. To be honest, I just haven’t really had the motivation, inspiration, or drive to work on music during my free time. It’s been a rough year for everyone.
At the beginning of the year, or maybe even at the end of 2019, I couldn’t tell ya, my friend Jo brought up the idea of starting a music collective. I thought it was a great idea, and jumped on board. We all got in a discord group, and started sending things to each other whenever we had ideas. I sent in “Places” and got some good feedback from everyone, so I decided to release it with them.https://telepath.icu/places
New Friends Collective
NFC is a collective created by my friend Jo!
Jo also asked me to provide a little quote or something about my release. Something about what inspired it, what it’s about, why it’s called “Places”…
I had abandoned the first version of “Places” well over a year and a half ago. It was about constantly traveling in order to temporarily close the gap of my long-distance relationship. Obviously, so much has changed since then. We are no longer long-distance, and we can no longer travel! When I revisited the project file at the beginning of quarantine, I was just overwhelmed with nostalgia for the trips we took together, and I tried to rewrite the drop to emulate that feeling.
You can check out the other songs in the debut volume on Spotify and other major platforms here:
The Work in Progress
This is actually the second attempt at this track. The original version was even more bass-heavy, teetering on the edge of the “dubstep” genre. I wasn’t happy with it, it didn’t sound good, and I’m glad I decided to change the direction a bit. I worked on it for a few hours at the beginning of the first quarantine lockdown here in France, several months ago, so I can’t recall too much detail about what was going on in my head while rewriting it. All I know is that I’m really happy with how it turned out.
In my previous release posts, I’d usually include the first version here as a Clyp post, but they decided to paywall their upload service. Let’s try out the WordPress uploads! Here’s the first render of the drop from May 27, 2019 (oof):
Release Assets & Credits
As always, here’s a fun little visualiser:
And here’s the official artwork, thanks to John (who i met in New York earlier this year!)
Well, good question. I have one song that I want to release next month, but I’m really not sure about what happens after that. Music will always be a hobby of mine, but I have a lot of other routes I want to explore right now. I’ve recently taken to making silly YouTube videos to distract myself from worldly issues. I’m also working full-time and tending to our cat.
I guess we’ll see.
